What is governed AI software delivery?
Governed AI software delivery is AI-assisted software work in which your team writes the tickets, agents return tested pull requests, your reviewers approve every merge, your policy decides model access, and the evidence stays in your own tools. It is defined by where control sits, not by how much the agent does.
The four controls that make delivery governed
AI agents can now write, test and open changes on their own. Delivery is governed when four things stay with the organization that owns the software, whatever the agents do in between:
- Your tickets: the work starts from defined work your team wrote, not from an agent's own plan
- Your reviewers: every change arrives as a pull request with its check results, and a named person approves each merge
- Your policy: which models and tools an agent may use, under whose identity and within what spend, is decided before the call
- Your records: which agent, which model, which rules and who approved are recorded in storage you own
How it differs from AI coding assistants and software factories
An AI coding assistant helps one developer write code faster inside an editor. An agentic software factory runs work from ticket to change with little human involvement. Governed AI software delivery can use either. What defines it is that the work enters through your tickets, leaves through your own review and release process, reaches models only under your policy, and leaves a record your risk, compliance and audit experts can read.
Governed AI software delivery as a managed service
Governed AI software delivery, operated for you. iTmethods delivers it with Reign: Reign Factory ships the backlog, Reign Gateway governs model calls, and Reign Ops runs your engineering platforms. All three are single-tenant, in infrastructure iTmethods operates or in the customer's own AWS or Azure account. Air-gapped and sovereign deployment are supported.
Where it maps to published controls
FINOS SDLC³ is the open catalog of SDLC controls for financial services. Its control for non-approved agentic processes, SDLC-SEC-013, asks you to know which agent changed what, under whose authority. Reign supports the evidence for it. Reign records support your risk, compliance and audit experts. Reign does not issue an audit opinion or a certification.
